English for adults

Our first blog.

This is so exciting.

This week we are getting ready for the biggest English Teacher's Conference in Israel 'ETAI'. We will be giving a workshop on how to use our 'advanced conversation' resource book. We will give a short introduction about 'Teaching Gems', show how to use one of our lessons interacting with the teachers. After that we will demonstrate a 'Left Over' and finally play a fun game to review 'Small Talk'.

Looking forward to seeing you,

Debz and Shaz.

Etai Conference 2015

We had a great time at the ETAI (English Teachers' Assossiation of Isreal) Conference.

We met some very interesting people and went to a couple of workshops on different teaching subjects.

We had our 'Advanced Conversation' resource book on sale and our three new games. The games were a hit and we are delighted that the teachers liked them.

We gave a 90 minute workshop on how to use the 'advanced conversation' resource book and finished off with a 'Scrambled Conversation Starters Word Game'.

Thank you to everyone that came to the workshop and bought our book and games.

Enjoy using them!

The games are for adults and for children from the age of 13/14 and/or English Speakers.

1. A Tenses Bingo Game that reviews the tenses - Present Simple/Progressive, Future and Past Simple/Progressive.

2. A Happy Families to review and reinforce the question HOW for example: How long...? How many..? How often...? How much...? How & adjective.

3. A Conversation Starters Scrambled Words Game to promote small talk. There are 18 subjects to talk about.

Divide the class into groups of four or five students. Give each group a set of word cards which they spread face up in front of them. Tell the students that all the words are 'small talk' words.

Write the first scrambled word on the board, for example: 'doof'. Each group looks at its cards. The first group to find the word 'food' picks it up, names it and receives a point. Continue with the next word, etc. The winning group is the one that receives the most points.

After all the words have been found each student has a minute to talk about one of the words. We suggest using different ideas; this will help students focus on a variety of ways to express themselves.

                                                                                                   Beginner Games

The games are for adults and for children from the age of 10.

1. A Grammar Bingo Game that reviews the grammar points taught in the Beginner Book. For example: a/an/some - Present Simple or Present Progressive - WH questions and answers.

2. A Memory Game based on vocabulary at a beginner's level.

The pairs are made up of a category and an object from that category. For example: number/three, clothes/shirt and body part/knee, etc.

3. SNAP - a vocabulary based game.

The students have to say 'snap' when they put down two cards from the same category.

For example: coffee/tea/juice/water. Any two from these cards are from the 'drinks' category.

Enjoy playing and teaching through our games!

Ice Breakers…

In a first lesson some of your students may know each other, but sometimes they don’t.

In either case, students are often inhibited to talk or communicate with others and ‘ice breakers’ are an excellent way to start the lesson.
